Welcoming New Trustees

In 2024 and 2025, Kabeyun welcomed five new members to the Porter Foundation Board of Trustees. Composed of Kabeyun alumni, families, and friends, the all-volunteer board helps provide strategic planning and oversight. Each trustee has a deep, personal connection to camp and is committed to providing the best possible program for campers and their families.

Alex Arensberg

Alex spent 11 summers at Kabeyun as a camper and counselor, including one summer as Head of Trips. He credits camp with shaping his self-confidence, values, and love of shared outdoor adventure, and is thrilled to give back as a trustee. A second-generation Kabeyun camper, Alex earned his law degree from UC Berkeley and is now a partner at Squire Patton Boggs, practicing environmental law. He lives in Frisco, CO, with his wife and two daughters.

Deb Friedman

Deb is a current Kabeyun parent, former counselor, and longtime Family Camper whose family’s connection to camp spans more than 65 years. As a counselor, she worked in the kitchen and later taught tennis and leather. With her husband and two sons, Deb lives in Washington, DC, where she runs a leadership development and executive coaching practice. Previously, she spent 15 years leading experiential education programs at National Geographic and The Walt Disney Company.

Dan Levin

Dan spent eight summers at Kabeyun as a camper and counselor in the 1980s and 1990s, developing a lifelong love of hiking, camping, and paddling. Now a trial attorney, Dan lives in Los Angeles with his wife Alison and their two sons, who have spent summers at camp since 2016. Dan has shared many adventures with Kabeyun friends across the West and currently serves as a trustee at the John Thomas Dye School and on several advisory boards.

Jackson Shulman

Jackson attended Kabeyun as a camper in the 1990s and returned as a counselor in the early 2000s. His family’s connection to camp continues today, with two nephews currently enrolled. Jackson lives in New York City, where he serves as the CEO of Great Forest sustainable waste consulting services. He is excited to serve on the Board of Trustees, helping ensure Kabeyun continues to thrive as the special place it has always been.

Andy von Mayrhauser

“Andy Von” lives with his family in Oakland, CA, where he has taught middle school for more than 25 years. In his free time, he loves hiking, fly-fishing, and participating in The Moth storytelling events. After his years as a Kabeyun camper, Andy was a backpacking trips leader and Head of Trips in the late 1980s and 90s. Andy’s father and two sons also attended Kabeyun, spanning 70 years.
