In Memoriam
We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the families and friends of these Kabeyun folks.
Jonathan Belmont (1955–2025)
Dr. Jonathan Belmont died at home in Philadelphia in May after a two-year fight against a particularly aggressive cancer. Jon was an ophthalmologist and retinal specialist who became an MD at age 21 by completing a combined five-year undergraduate and medical degree program through Penn State and Jefferson Medical School in 1976. An avid photographer, Jon loved skiing in the American West, surfing at the Jersey Shore, and traveling to surf spots around the world with his sons Ryan, Kyle, and Zack. During Kabeyun’s centennial celebration, Jon spoke movingly at Pine Point about his experiences as a camper, counselor-in-training, and staff member.
Paul Biddle (1963–2025)
Paul Biddle, an accomplished architectural designer, videographer, and writer, died in April in Los Angeles, where he lived for many years. As “the Middle Biddle” among seven siblings, Paul had a knack for storytelling and movie-making that entertained family and friends throughout his life. He had an eye for art and a love of adventure, especially on his motorcycle or skis. A graduate of The University of Virginia School of Architecture and the American Film Institute, Paul began his career directing and producing TV ads before opening his Drexel Design firm designing private homes in L.A.
Steven Ehrenberg (1955–2025)
Steven Ehrenberg, a longtime technical and production manager, died in Brooklyn in April following a heart attack. Steven was a trusted behind-the-scenes leader in theatre, dance, and music, supporting world-renowned artists like Julie Taymor and Twyla Tharp while championing countless productions Off-Broadway and beyond. He also was instrumental in renovating and reviving some of the oldest theatre venues in the US and the world. As a Kabeyun counselor, Steven continued the tradition of staging Gilbert and Sullivan productions in the Lodge. A longtime resident of Brooklyn, he remained loyal to Kabeyun, Roxbury Latin School, and the Boston Red Sox.
Paul Flanagan (1996–2025)
Paul Flanagan died in September after collapsing on a morning run in Lake Geneva, WI. Like his father, grandfather, and brothers, Paul spent many summers at Kabeyun and had a great love of the outdoors. Paul grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from St. John’s University, where he played lacrosse and met his future wife, Hannah. Paul lived in Utah, worked as a Lead Environmental Scientist at RMEC Environmental Inc., and loved skiing in the Wasatch Mountains. He’s remembered for his sincerity, loyalty, and love of adventure.
Wayne Stanton (1960–2025)
Wayne Stanton, who spent 15 summers at Kabeyun beginning in 1968, died of multiple myeloma in October. Wayne grew up in Nutley, NJ, graduated from Blair Academy and Alfred University, and later settled in Center Conway, NH. An avid skier, hiker, backpacker, fisherman, photographer and concert-goer, Wayne was proud to have completed all 48 New Hampshire 4,000-footers and New England’s 100 Highest peaks. At camp, he loved to hike and play tennis and taught many campers to waterski. Survivors include his wife Theresa and daughter Michaela, who encouraged people to honor Wayne by enjoying the outdoors in his memory.
